Great again.

I will never forget your comparison of windows and UNIX with regards to a cleaning lady (cleaning person)...that was about the one making it look neat but when you opened the cupboards the shit would hit the fan and the other variant was to pile stuff up you could get rid of yourself. I forgot which was windows and which was Unix :).

Have you tried teaching a child to read in English? Because I am. And that's... highlighting ALL of these problems. "Ah, sweetie, you're right that this is how you'd pronounce it in most cases. But in THIS case..." and hating yourself and the English language for it :P

In addition, I often lament not having a more pronounced foreign accent. It's not just understanding what is being said within the syntactic bounds of the language. It's also that we (foreigners) do not have the context a lot of the times.

Very well put. It's interesting that after Latin, then French, we finally have a non-latin-sourced language as "the" language.

And your Perl comparison was spot on; I was thinking Python, but that's too modern and clean.
