Another approach is to let go of what you think is important and focus on play and what is interesting. I think too often a slump is caused by a mismatch between the two. The obvious example is Feynman after the manhattan project having lost his inspiration. By focussing on some small problem, why a plate wobbled he got his spark back. By pulling hard enough on that thread he ultimately got to quantum electrodynamics which won him a Nobel
